Christmas Letter

2006 was a year for getting down to business. The year started off with Carolyn heading to Victoria for a Midwifery placement. Although she missed Adam terribly she was a lunch time regular at Luke’s deli (Choux Choux Charcuterie opened in the fall of 2005). She also had a chance to catch up with good friends Pete & Debbie who moved to Victoria from Whitehorse in 2005. Adam got into the grove of 9 to 5 working as a web developer at Laplink software. He came to Victoria for regular conjugal visits with his wife on the weekends.

After writing her exams in April Carolyn was right back into school with a placement with family physicians in Abbotsford in May. June saw her working with nurses at Lionsgate Hospital on Vancouver’s North Shore witnessing her first vaginal delivery of twins. Her final summer placement was at a youth clinic in Vancouver where she nervously conducted pregnancy tests for teenage girls.

Carolyn was honoured to be asked to support friends Sara & Yannik at the home birth of their baby girl Calla in June. It seems like babies are popping out everywhere with the birth of Sadie to friends Dave & Jen in Whitehorse in February and most recently the home birth of Sylvie to Pete & Debbie in Victoria. It makes Carolyn’s ovaries hurt!

Carolyn headed back to Ontario for a visit with family in the month of August, joined shortly by Adam. After visiting with Cammie and Grandpa in Kingston they headed to a music festival on Wolfe Island where they caught up with good friend Bry and his girlfriend Katie. Bry’s band the Constantines were the main attraction at the festival. They then headed to Montreal to visit with some friends and take in the sites. A week at a beautiful cottage in Quebec was next on the agenda. A highlight of the trip was fishing and swimming with Chloe & Calvin. We enjoyed many fabulous bbq’s in Paula’s backyard when Sue & Alex were visiting from Bracebridge.

Carolyn finishes up her exams December 15th and is looking forward to a nice break before heading into her final semester. She will graduate in the Spring joining her sister as a registered midwife. Adam is dreaming up some kind of trip to celebrate.

Hope everyone has a great holiday and all the best in the new year.
